Yup, (I've still) little to contribute 'cept inane enquiries, anyway...

So, hooray, got my badge, got the car passed, etc.

Where I am the council plate as either Hackney or Private Hire. However Hackneys are allowed to do PH work also, they're (even) allowed to have their company signs on will they're on a rank getting Hackney work. So far so almost straight-forward...

I intended to get plated as a Hackney, but ideally focus on PH work. (I'd get a PH operators licence and work for myself as a sole operator - the joys/merits/sheer evil of which has been discussed elsewhere in TDOland) So I got my vehicle plated as a Hackney. And sought my PH operators licence. 'Oh no you can't' chortled the pre-festive council, 'you can't have a PH operators licence, because, [rare moment of clarity coming up here...] you don't have a PH vehicle, you've (only) got a Hackney vehicle.'
Alright, I undersatand that. 'But I can take private work and have my own company sign on the vehicle (as well as doing straight Hackney work)?' 'Yes.'
Wow! We're heading in the same direction for once.

Now, my 'problem' if it is one, is I was daft/forward thinking enough to have a fair few business cards made containing the line 'Private Hire Vehicle 'Taxi' Service'. And while the 'Taxi' (or even Taxi) bit is nay bother, I'm a tad worried about the "Private Hire Vehicle" bit, as although my vehicle is avilable to be privately hired it's not plated as PHV....

I'm hoping this isn't a problem - I've tried felt-tip penning out the 'offending' term "Hire Vehicle" (leaving "Private Taxi Service") but it looks like someone's crossed out two words on a business card with a nasty black marker, and very untidily at that.

So, what I'd like to do is leave the cards as they are. I realise I could put this to the council, but I'm sick of seeing them and I'm sure it's mutual, so I thought I'd ask here, as yall're so much nicer, cleverer and better looking than the council...

In short, although I'm Hackney plated, as my vehicle is legitimately available to be privately hired can I describe the service I offer as "Private Hire Vehicle 'Taxi' Service"? (I appreciate the Taxi bit needn't be in comas, but it is...) Basically, is there the same/a similar strict legal code governing the use of the term 'Private Hire' as there is governing the use of the word 'Taxi'?

Thanks.

As an HC, I don't think you need a PH ops licence to take bookings.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will tell me...........

You don't need a operator's license, and you don't need to p*** around altering your cards.

But the idea of a hackney carriage advertising as a PH, brings much mirth to Mr Sussex.

Apart from the wording on vehicles I don't think there's a strict legal code anywhere, apart from London.

Your cards perhaps aren't technically correct, and I wouldn't bother about them unless there's any problem, and if necessary you can then take it from there.
