We have an out of area Hackney operating in our area at the moment. It's undertaking pre booked jobs using a mobile number only and not (so far at least) doing any street of rank work.

I've spoken to both Licensing Units but neither can come up with a good enough reason to have him hung, drawn & quartered, but I'll not give up just yet.

I spoke to my insurance broker today, and he reckons that operating like this could cause any policy to be null & void should the Insurance Company decide to play it by the book regarding relative area loadings.
Any thoughts anyone?

The outcome of that case was in favour of the evil out of area driver, but at least he did promise to dig it out and have another look. Does this ring a bell with you at all?

We have out of area vehicles operating in our area too, they are called private hire vehicles but just like the hackney carriage you mention they are not breaking any laws. Is it your concern that you prefer to see a private hire plate on the back of this vehicle rather than a hackney carriage plate?
