Some of you may remember my last post when I explained about my licence application being rejected due to me having diabetes and unfortunately I went over the 21 days time to appeal. Well since then I have decided to give up fighting the 21 days limit law and just re-do the medical, one problem, it costs £75 to get done at the doctors and about £35 for the councils medical chap to review it, not a great deal of money I know but when you're on jobseekers and struggling to find a job this money seems like quite a lot and is not something I can just afford to splash out in one go.

So, I decided to contact the jobcentre and appy for a budgeting loan, no luck there as I got one a while back to help cover some bills and some other important things, I need to pay that back before I can take out another one which will take about 4 months. I then enquired about a crisis loan, nope, because this isn't classed as a crisis and they wouldn't give me much anyway. My last option would be to put some money by here and there and save up the £105, but again that will take a while.

Overall I cannot believe the council/government are always so eager and desperate to get people back to work, yet clearly they have absolutely no interest in helping people back to work what so ever. It is disgusting to think foreigners come into this country and get everything done for them, a British person gets treated like a nobody. WHY?!?!?

Because many folks take the p***, and don't use the money to try and gain work.

Have you not got a local Credit Union? :?

Sussex: There is a local credit union but pretty sure you need to have been a member for a while and have been saving with them, which I plan to do soon.

wannabeeahack: Type 1 on insulin.

Start saving a little, maybe a £1 a week, and see how that goes.

Down here I think you need save for only a few weeks.

If type2 then you shouldnt have a problem, as I am and my medical was the same as a HGV medical, why approach a local taxi base, ask if any of the owners on the circuit are looking for drivers and maybe 1 would pay for your badge to drive for them, holding your badge till they had recouped thier outlay (probably illegal but prudent)

Of course it would be illegal to hold on to his badge. How would he be able to work without wearing one?

The operator is required to hold on to the licence anyway, don't they bother in Lichfield?

given that it can take 3 months for a CRB check to go through i think the only option IS to poach a driver off another owner....

It's not so much about the diabetes side of things that I'm annoyed about, it's the fact the council/government refuse to help me out with the money even though I'm guaranteed a full time job afterwards. I only need about £110, I could get that back to them in a month or 2.

Ask the job centre for the money. They will pay for your medical and application if you are assured to get a job .my friend got his r.g.i.t course paid for ,all they asked for was a guarantee that he had a job to go to if he had his r.g.i.t certificate. So if you have a taxi operator who will give you a job get him to write a letter for you to give to the job centre. The rgit course cost nearly fifteen hundred pounds so i am sure they could help you if you were guaranteed a job good luck

If a jobs waiting why wont the car owner pay for your badge?

ive always said (having had PAYE drivers for vehicles) that you can buy vehicles and insurances, but you cant buy drivers......

Ok I'll give the jobcentre a try, if they're so eager to help people find jobs they shouldn't have a problem with it. cheers.

As I see it the job can only be guarranteed IF he gets his license. Getting the license is not a forgone conclusion.
