You don't have to pay for the car if you're not working.

The car is on a week by week basis fully maintained (including tyres/pads etc). If it breaks down they'll drop off another plated car within half an hour.

The taxi firm also do a highly reduced week rate if you're not working that week.

As you suggest, if it works on paper on that budget, then you should have a good buffer built in.

Why not try working Sundays, and have Tuesday/Wednesday off?

Well, I've got my application in. Should be done in 6-8 weeks. £130 a week for car hire including insurance £85 a week radio hire. 70l diesel a week... £70 The firm I'll be working for... basically you sign off and sign on when you want (They're a huge firm). I'm willing to work my arse off at this. Was basically considering 3pm - 3am Monday to Sunday morning (have Sunday off). If I took £7 an hour average (Which I would hope was possible. All the taxis I took from town home where £4 and that was a five min job) then I'd be comfortable. Obviously in my deepest darkest dreams, I'd be pulling in £10 an hour:D. Ok. I've set my weekly profit target at £200 Which means cost plus profits = £485 which means my daily target would be £80.83. What do you think? Is that possible? Thanks very much Ash

If you are working 72 hours for £200 profit that is £2.77 per hour less tax and insurance. Are you mad!!!!!

as a HC on a radio circuit i used to take £500+ a week 15 years ago... as an independent HC (no radio) ive done £300 between 9am friday morning and 7am saturday morning (god bless time and half) you would have to be barking to aim at only £200 nett for 7 days work, McDonalds would be better DONT forget that if your on holiday you still have to pay the car+radio rent

while your doing forecasts and budgets, dont forget you will be sent to do account work, that money you may not see for 6 weeks....you will pay for the fuel on the day though

Hey, my dad never said (but should've) aim low. I realise £200 profit less tax and my own accounting is not a lot of money. As I say, £7 per hour (or more accurately £2.77) is a price I'll pay to be able to work formyself when I want. You don't have to pay for the car if you're not working. I've not worked in this industry before and have absolutely no idea how much I can expect to earn. A lot of the local cabbies I've spoken too said at quiet times they might only do 1 or 2 £4 jobs an hour but at busy times they can hit £30. I'm working on the theoretical minimum. Any more and I'll be happy. EDIT: Before any smart arse says it, I realise the theoretical minimum is -£285 a week. I mean the minimum at which I'd stick it out

Sorry, should've made it clear. The taxi company do not hire cars but they gave me a contact of the guys who does most of the cars for their drivers. So the car hire and radio hire are seperate companies.

As I say, the car hire is entirely week by week basis. I might have a different car when I go back but it's week by week. It's a large firm (>140 drivers). If you don't work at all for the week it's £20.

Sunday can be a very busy day, early morning you get people waking up not knowing where they are or how they got there for one Then you get the God squad going to church, then the shops open people want to shop on their only day available. Then the pubs open and footie might be on the God squad are going home and there are fewer cars out coz they worked all night on Saturday. In the afternoon you get shoppers going home and the dinner time sessioners staggering back home. Course this is all dependant on how much cash there is left in their pockets after Saturday
