The fools from the union that arrange the fares. Guess what union that is? They didn't realise that January 1st fell on the first day of January.
So the lads down here must be the only people in the country that didnt earn any extras on New Year's Day.

Call me Mr Silly but wouldnt it be better to have a fare increase before December? that way you get paid better for the busy period and by the time January comes the customers are use to the new fare. regards Captain cab |

They can change the meter themselves can't they??? |

What else were you expecting? It wasn't a bank holiday unlike monday Jan 3. Where was the alleged mistake made? I looked at the tarrif sheet posted on here by Sussex. |

But Brightons fare rises are through a Fare Rise Formula, arn't they Cgull. No annual negotiations actually take place, the formula is applied and the public notices are issued on specific dates allowing a rise to come into effect on a certain date every year. B. Lucky |

Look if its the t&gs position that cab drivers should earn noraml rate on January 1st then let them say it. One of the ph lads rang up kavanaugh and he said it was wrong. they should get enhnaced rate. Arse and elbow spring to mind.

The problem with these fare formulas is that they may be reasonably correct about rises in running costs etc, but most of the fare is made of of elements about which they just make HUGE assumptions, which renders the whole exercise not exacly economically literate. But the biggest nonsense, particuarly in Brighton, is that the formula assumes that drivers should be earning a certain level, and the figures are formulated to that end. But how do they account for the diffence between a jockey paying inflated rentals and a plate holder benifitting from them? The answer is they don't - it's simply ignored. So the whole exercise is not economically rigourous and also grossly hypocritical. |

More nonsense, presumably T&G sourced. The official document for the recent meeting, posted on this forum by Nidge, said: The formula sets the highest figure that will be entertained by the council in setting fares. The actual fares are then set in negotiation with the taxi trade. |

The fare table has been in force for many months and was advertised for objections.. did you object at the time? News Years Day was not an official holiday . January 3 was a bank holiday in lieu. Now take a look at the Worthing tariff and you can see that you actually got four hours more at the enhanced rate. For hiring on Christamas Day, Boxing Day and up tp 6am on 27th Decenber or for hiring between 8pm on New Years Eve and 6am New Years Day. Tariff 3 http://www.worthing.gov.uk/A-ZofService ... 974,en.pdf Now look at the Eastbourne tariff, again you got five hours more at the enchanced rate. Tariff 4. From midnight Christmas Eve until 5am 27th Dec. and from midnight New Years Eve until 5am New Years Day Double Tariff 1. http://www.eastbourne.gov.uk/Have_Your_ ... _fares.pdf All taken from latest available data. |

I'm grateful for all that info Nigel. The point Cgull is making (I think) is that your leader thinks drivers should enjoy enhanced rates on January 1st. It would appear this isn't shared by the local team. Or they didn't bother to look and see what day the 1st January fell on.

Here in our delimited outpost of Essex, we up the rates based upon the number of drivers whom we can reasonably get to work. Eg: CHristmas day, no one wanted to work at all. So, we went double-time and managed to get some cover in. Its amazingly simple if you are delimited. |
