I've been told that radios can only be mounted in the drivers compartment, i.e. Not in the passenger footwell or glovebox. I've also been advised that dataheads cannot be mounted above the dashboard, eg, on a suction mount in the corner of the windscreen. VOSA has been cited as the authority for these prohibitions. Any knowledge or comments? |

Any knowledge or comments? A guy round here got 3 points and a £60 fine for using his PDA so I'd be careful. |

Thanks for that, Mr M. I was more interested in the mounting of them rather than the use. Anyone have opinions? Probably not, given the deafening silence!! |

Anyone have opinions? Probably not, given the deafening silence!! I would guess there are in excess of 100,000 data heads/radios/PDAs above the dash, so you should be well down the list. |

Yes you can be done for using a PDA in car whilst its moving and your holding it, if its fixed to a mount, then your are ok, same as a mobile. Fixed data heads and two way radios are perfectly legal to use in a vehicle even when moving, unless you are all over the road whilst doing it, then yes you would possibly get done for driving with out due care. also there is no law against using a two way or CB radio whilst the vehicle is in motion. Two way and data head use are not covered by the same laws as mobile phone use. |

all the cops have to do is fall back on "driving without due care and attention" and it can be eating a sarnie, sipping from a can of pop or picking your nose.... |

So, no one has heard of the original query about VOSA objecting to the position of the mounting, eg, passenger footwell or windscreen suction mount? |
