IF A BRAND NEW Act of Parliament governing Hackney Carriage and Private Hire legislation received the Royal Assent and became Statute Law in the not too distant future;

1. Which ONE item, relating to Hackney Carriage legislation, would you like to see included in the new Act that is not already in the existing legislation?

2. Which ONE item, relating to Private Hire legislation, would you like to see included in the new Act that is not already in the existing legislation?

3. Which ONE item would you like to see abolished from existing Hackney Carriage legislation by the new Act?

4. Which ONE item would you like to see abolished from existing Private Hire legislation by the new Act?

I'd like to see something that makes PH companies prove they at least have work for the drivers they take money from via settle.

Impossible.

Unworkable.

And funny why you never make a similar point about HC circuits and plate holders.

I did once use a shocked expression when Jasbar said how much his rent was. I don't suppose that counts  Apart from which I thought I'd leave it to the superior minds, like yourself, to come up with things for the HC trade. I'm always on my best behaviour in the licensing & legal section O:)

I know you said one, but you can pick anyone you like out of my selections.

Meter fares to include journeys outside of area, and 100% WAVs, and op licensese for firms of more than 2 taxis.

PH (and taxis) not to sit waiting (when free) for jobs in areas they are not licensed in. Knowledge tests for all PH drivers. Operator employing drivers that work 100% on their circuit.

Section 16 of the 1985 Transport Act.

Section that supposedly allows operators to have a base outside of their licensing area.

CIVIC GOVERNMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 1982
22 Nothing in sections 10 to 21 (with the exception of subsection (7) of section 21) of this Act shall:-
(c)apply to a vehicle while it is being used for carrying passengers under a contract for its exclusive hire for a period of not less than 24 hours.

But you still support restricted numbers. You can't have restricted numbers without inflated rentals.

Shocked expressions are easy. There's one, and here's another

I'll ignore the sarcasm, particularly given that you spend half your time on here defending restricted numbers

I'm surprised your lot didn't join up with our lot and ban that scam. :?

Well I'm surprised that you are surprised, so there.

That said, if i was a betting man, I would say of all the laws that need changing, or for that matter the ones that don't, section 16 will be the first to go.

Now I think you are having me at it!!

Do you really mean abolish Section 16, or do you mean abolish Section 16 & replace it with total de-limitation?

Because if you just abolished Section 16, full stop, you would be back to the days prior to the Transport Act 1985, with licensing authorities empowered to limit HC numbers.

Is that what you really mean?

Scrap all the laws as they stand and only have WAVs and saloons with the larger company's having to provide a WAV for every 3 saloons they have, that would take care of any WAV provision
No limit on plates as numbers will find there own level
over time, All licence fees set by VOSA

You suggest a one Tier system ... and immediately come up with a two-tier system... for it to be one Tear... they would all have to have identical right's..
