Hi,

been a freelance courier for just over a year, but work has just dried totaly up

thinkin of sellin the van and becomin a cabbie on a private hire lience

got the application forms and stuff from cardiff council, was just wonderin though if anybody could tell me how long the whole process takes in cardiff from start to finish.

also are there any quiet periods? i guess chirstmas and new year would be busier, but are there generaly any times when it goes quiet? or can i reasonably expect there to be work all the time?

I expect the council can give you rough idea how long it will take for you to get your license. The time varies from an average of three years in London, to an average of three minutes in Mansfield.

Some firms are busy all the time, and some just some of the time. I think it's just a case of talking to the firms and join who you feel best with.

And if they turn out to be pony, then just go and join another one.

I can't recall anyone from Cardiff posting on here, so as Sussex said you should ask the council, but you are likely to get as good information from local firms - after all you'll have to approach them anyway if you are going to be working for them.

If the process seems quite tough to get through then don't worry, that will probably mean that you'll earn more in the long run.

You'll tend to make more doing nights rather than days, particularly at the weekends.

I think most places tend to be a quieter in the summer rather than than the winter , and an added factor is that a lot of the bigger cities depend a lot on students, so during vacations your take may be down.

But I think that the general rule is that you have to work fairly long and unsocial hours to make a crust, but it depends how much you need to earn.

was planning on workin saturdays and friday 12ish-12ish, maybe thursday the same hours and a coupe of days a week aswell.

aside from weekends bein busiest, have you guys noticed any days that are generaly pretty quiet?

sunday afternoons quiet unless you want to get some dinner then surprise surprise it aint quiet then

I quite like working Sundays. Mid morning it's quiet, but after that it's very nice indeed.

sundays are good in plymouth too, better than friday nights sometimes.

sundays are very good if you work as a ph.
rank work only really happens late afternoon.

mind you i guess lots of people go to the pub on a sunday afternoon for a chill and need a taxi home

guess im gunna have to give all possible combinations a try and then decide which is best

On Sundays the cake is smaller, but you get bigger chunks of it.

I was going to say most of the lads have it off, but I decided against that.

I think it varies from place to place.

St Andrews can be very quiet on a friday, not because theres less work but because theres more cars out.

You can sometimes do better on Monday or Tuesday because there are a lot fewer cars.

Sometimes its just the luck of the draw.
