IS this the most expensive Rural Taxi Licence, in a town that has no actual Taxi Ranks? And a population of 36,000 over the whole district.

Licence, renewable every three years at £165.
CRB every three years at £34
Medical every three years at £68

Total Licence cost £267 or £89 a year.

And 10 days notice of the increase.

I suppose there's an argument for saying that in smaller areas the costs should be higher, because the department won't have the economies of scale that will come with a bigger authority.

It's like the booking office scenario - cost per job will be higher in a smaller office.

These increases must have been advertised, so it may have been best to object.

However if they weren't, then they are illegal.

I guess you all missed me.

Drivers licenses do not have to be advertised whereas PH vehicle and PH operators and HC proprietors licenses do.

I think section 70 1976 covers fees in respect of vehicles and operators licenses.

Section 53 covers drivers licenses and these dont have to be advertised but must be reasonable

salutations

If you are aggrieved by the increase you can first object to it, this will normally get a delay until the next available committee meeting where the objections would be heard. If that fails you will have to go to judicial review and try and convince a Judge that the increases are unreasonable. That last option may be pretty difficult to prove because at first glance they appear not to be wholly unreasonable.

One of the overriding factors would be the percentage increase from the previous charges. Can you tell us the increase in percentages terms?

Regards

JD

Thanks JD, its about 50%. However, the good news is that the Council are calling a meeting to discuss the whole range of issues, and what proposals they have to spend money on improving facilities for Hackneys, and creating a proper new rank. We will see. And I will report back.

I just paid my year fee for a test and it cost me £277.00 the license cost me £135.00 for 3 years.
The council say the cost is to cover the admin in Edinburgh as they test all vehicle for West Lothian.

So you're saying it costs £277 just to test the vehicle once a year?

Yes every year, the council say its because the test is carried out by the Edinburgh test center and the price is to cover admin.
Its the same test as Edinburgh taxis and privates but its very expensive for the cost of the Fax to West Lothian.

I don't know how they can justify that, even for the license and testing that's extortionate.

it's a easier test than edinburghs but that costs £120(probaly because we had been paying to much for years and they had built up a large taxi-license fund, which is ring-fenced so they have to use it for the trade)

Is that £120 just for the vehicle test?
