Got this request for information via e-mail. Could you please tell me how you buy a plate and how much do they cost. I have had the offer of a black cab R reg with a plate for £15,000. The owner is saying it is a abragin as plate can sell for £20000. Is this true? Where can I fin dout how much a palte costs please. I am trying to work out if I am being robbed or not and if it is worth the gamble of leaving the private hire and going for a hackney licence. What should they do? Alex |

If something seems to good to be true, then more times than not it is. So unless this bloke selling you his plate is a fool, then he is more than likely trying to take you for one. If I was you I would ring your local council and ask them if they can guaruntee taxi quotas for the next 10-15 years. If they can't then keep your money in the bank.

![]() Beware of anyone trying to shift his plate premium onto someone else, especially when the council are deciding whether to keep premiums in the first place.
