Hi folks, I would like some advice please.

I am being made redundant and have been offered a driving job to help until I get another job. Problem is that this is a VERY close relative who I don't want knowing about the stupid things I did when I was younger. They were minor offences and from what I have read up on they would be classed as spent as they were over 15 years ago.

Question is. Does an operator get given a drivers record as a matter of course? Or does the operator have to apply for it to see if the person is a suitable applicant?

Would there be a way to get a license without them finding out things? e.g. apply to the council saying I dont have a job lined up yet and will be applying once I have the license.

it might be different for your area, but with mine it was just the council's licencing dept who get to see the results of the CRB check, i paid them my £32 and they did the rest. they're the ones who decide to give you a licence or not, not the operator.

if the operator has a policy of needing their own checks as well then they would see whatever come back on your CRB.

The council license you, not the operator. So it will be the council that get to see your inns and outs.

But I suppose there is nothing stopping the operator asking all his drivers to fill in another CRB form, but I doubt any do.

As an operator who is registered with the CRB to carry out disclosures, i can confirm the two opinions given. It is the local licensing authority that issues your badge and only the authorised signatories are able to see whatever history you might have.

An operator can ask to see your CRB disclosure but you are not oblighed to show them. The Licensing officer cannot suuply a copy of the disclosure or tell anyone else about it without your written approval .
