dont the council have a list of streets that they pick for the test? down here they have 200 streets, venues and 50 or so routes that the council base their exam on. you get asked 20 out of the ones on that list. so if you learn just those 200 you can be sure to be able to give a right answer. |

It might be an idea. All councils have to be 'fair and reasonable' in everything they do. Having a pseudo one year, ban doesn't meet that criteria IMHO. I would ask when that policy was put in place, and how often has it been reviewed. Maybe contact the local press. If all that fails then perhaps the Local Gov Ombudsman might be worth a try. |

dundee council have been working this way for at least fifteen years, there doesn,t seem much sense in making individuals wait another year, get either the dta or the wta to question the council commitee at the next meeting (dec 1st) im sure the council would change this rule if asked why it was implemented in the first place,it was almost certainly brought in at a time when plates were limited but thats all changed now , |

![]() i tend to agree that a year is far to long to wait for a resit ask youre council what legislation they are using to enforce this. however you should perhaps ask youreself do you know enough topo knowledge to be a dundee taxi driver as yet, you say you studied for 3 months, be honest with youreself, is that really long enough, clearly not as you failed 3 times. im not trying to put a downer on you, but surely you must know that these test are thier for a reason. and a certain standard should be achievedable in a set amount of time and how much effort you put in 3 months and a thousand streets aint much is it. ps is thier any good courses or tuition schools in dundee, or do you have to do it all youreself in an unstrucured manner |

Pah! Call that studying? Try three years, and 15'000 streets, accompanied by 10'000 points on interest.
Now thats Knowledge.

I don't know if the rule is really that unreasonable - presumably if you get three shots at it and still haven't passed then presumably it's reasonable to suggest that you should wait a while until you have another go. After all, I believe the Knowledge of London is effectively like that - if you don't pass at an appearance then you have to wait a good while until you can appear again, whereas if you pass you go on to the next stage and that comes round more quickly. So if you pass you don't have to wait as long until your next appearance but if you fail then you have to wait the same time until your next one. The analogy isn't exact, but presumably the Dundee rule stops unprepared people taking the test continuously and just wasting everyone's time and effectively playing the system. |

Surely if the council made a charge for the knowlegde test only, then drivers should be able to take as many as they like.

Be careful what you wish for, may it come true. |

Be careful what you wish for, may it come true. If someone passes the test then they are ok, if they fail then they are not. So the fact that some folks take ages to get in, shouldn't go against them when they do. I mean it takes 3 years for the London lot, and we still talk to them.
