Apologies for my ignorance and plain stupidness, but from what I've read on this board is it right that p/h drivers in London dont have to do the "knowledge"

Do they have to take some sort of other test ? Surely they must still have a crb check from the LA ??

I'll find it amazing if they can just jump in a car and hey presto !!! Espeically for a city like london !

In Cardiff youve got to take the same test if your H/C or P/H so I thought it was the same across the board !! LIke I said apologies for my igorance !! :? :? :?

In the past Mr GBC's friends minicab drivers didn't need anything more than a normal driving license, and many of them didn't have that.

Now they have to have a CRB and medical check, but no knowledge.

And 'hire and reward' insurance, in theory at least.

However, it's worth mentioning that - despite constant references by a regular contributor to one of the other taxi websites - operating a London minicab in the past was never illegal; there's a difference between being unregulated and operating illegally.

And even at that some would have us believe that the world had stopped revolving. I thought words like 'meltdown' were confined to the ITV news.

As far as I know he mainly posts on Jamie's London 'list' (that's the more private one, not the one that uses the same software as this one), but he has posted on the other forums occassionaly.

Not naming any names mind, since I don't want any scandal  , but just making the point.

London now has its own private hire legislation, if you wan't to know what they can and cannot do, that would be a good place to start?
