just had a read of the firms newsletter and the council have done a massive spot check. they stopped 75 cars. 10 failed. and taken off the road. by all accounts txs and indepedent taxis.
might have been more but scanners firm put it out on their dataheads so most of their drivers went home. surprise surprsie.
funniest bit was the tax people liked the look of one of the drivers who did a runner when stopped. it seems old speedy he was on incapacity benefit.

surprise surprsie. Some things just never change.
Maybe the council should investigate to see if they remain 'fit and proper' operators.

We had the Gestapo out over the weekend trying to catch all the bad boys. A friend of mine got the "red sticker" (Unfit for public transport) for a faulty door lock on his Metro. He pointed out that Ph vehicles don't have doors which lock automatically when on the move. Their answer was "here's your sticker and we don't discuss the politics of what we do, Cab office Monday morning". Nice to be nice eh

I cant understand these councils doing spot checks like this. Every driver knows where/when/how as soon as the 1st one drives past via the radio. Why not go to the operators office, see who's out and pull them in before they have chance to go off the air. The ammount of drivers who go missing as soon as word gets out is amazing. But they could also give you a recipt to show youve been stopped so it doesnt happen more than once in the same day, ive had it 3 times in a day once. |

I think many operators aren't as 'fit and proper' as yours, thus word would soon get around and the iffy ones will be off.

Is every driver licensed in your manor your mate?
I've got loads of mates, but none of them run on bald tyres and/or illegally claim benefit, thus they haven't anything to worry about. And the ones that do run on bald tyres and/or illegally claim benefits, ain't no mates of mine.
So f*** em.

dont know for sure. but i would guess the ones that failed are cars owned by non drivers which have multiple jockies. most of them dont pay tax etc. so i agree with sx. |

IMO theres a big difference in tipping off a mate so he's not held up for 1/2hr and loses cash and tipping off a mate because he's running an illegal motor. I happen to belive that the job should be done as proffesionally as possible to keep the work coming in, we have enough chancers trying it on and giving the rest of us a bad name. |

latest is that 8 cars were taken off thne road by vosa. 8 taken off the road by the council. and three up before the inland revenue. including speedy.
so thats 20% of drivers stopped. so much for standards being so good down ere.
