In a Derby taxi garage on saturday, talking to drivers about testing regimes. In Derby for instance, all cabs must be yellow. Not just yellow, but a very particular shade of yellow. Test failures include stone chips on number plates, scuffed wheel trims, scratches to jump seats, (from pushchairs, etc) noisy, (?) squeaking suspension, scuffed tyrewalls, rust on wiper arms, and stonechips to bodywork, and more I can't remember. A robust testing regime, for vehicle safety is, of course, absolutely essential. But are LA's going too far, as seems to be the case in Derby. It is not uncommon there for brand new cabs to fail. One owner had been through eight retests at £40 a time. So, is this really in the public interest on the grounds of health and safety, or beaurocracy gone mad? |

I agree. But who are the bigger fools? The LAs that have such stupid rules administered by jobs-worths, or the drivers for letting them get away with it for so long?

There is case law on colour shades. You will find it on TDO lol. Prefers a whiter shade of pale. JD |

the dundee taxi association chalenged the council over the stone chips thing, the argument was that the damage could have been done on the way to the test station, it worked and we now get 21 days to fix the paintwork, which is more preferable than the the off service stickers handed out a few years ago |
