We had a case a few years ago where one of the drivers got loaded to a village around 10 miles away in the opposite direction (but still within the district) to where he needed to be to start his afternoon school run. He had to unload his passenger and put them in the cab behind. The passenger complained to the council and he was given a written warning and reminded of his obligations. I don’t think the passenger was happy at being asked to get out of one cab and into another. It would have been much simpler if the driver could have asked the driver in front that if a small job came out he wouldn’t mind doing it. Likewise, if he’d informed the driver behind that he may have to pass on any ‘distance’ jobs I’m sure they would have accommodated him. He could have then asked the destination of the passenger before he got into the vehicle and directed him to the vehicle behind, with a short explanation of the reason.
