The RRO to amend registering school transport services is due for completion later this year. The full changes can be found on the DfT website.

Public Service Vehicles

A proposal to reform the Transport Act 1985 and the Transport Act 1968. It will:

* remove the requirement for school transport services carrying pupils or students (but not the general public) as fare-paying passengers to be registered with the traffic commissioners
* increase the maximum permitted length of bus subsidy contracts
* allow Passenger Transport Executives to lease buses to operators for the provision of services under bus subsidy contracts and
* remove the restrictions placed by the 1985 Act on Councillor Directors of Public Transport Companies.

Initial Scrutiny period began 22 November 2005.

No, if I had to read it then so should others.

Alright then, I was concerned that school runs presently contracted to the taxi/PH trade could be lost to, yet more, unlicensed vehicles.
