Should a council seal a taximeter after it has been tested or is it at their discretion wether they are sealed or not. Our council do not seal them what do other councils do. |

I don't believe current legislation says, "they have to seal the meter" but they can seal the meter if they so wish. If you come across case law appertaining to sealing Taximeters please let us know? Regards JD |

As there is no statutory requirement to have a meter in the acts, it follows there's no requirement to have them sealed in the acts. That said, in the model bylaws attached to the DoT 8/86 guidance, it says that meters should have seals to stop them being tampered with. So I suppose it all depends on whether a council adopted the bylaws.

Well they do for everything else arming themselves with laws is their favourite past-time. If they missed this one you could knock me over with a feather.
