Taxi driver invents a way to save time... A TAXI driver's invention helps make it easier for cabbies to pick-up passengers after a night out. David Cleminson came up with the idea to avoid drivers wasting time waiting outside pubs and clubs. The 54-year-old from Boothstown, pictured, knew nothing about electronics - but he spent the next four years after his night shift working on his ingenious invention. With David's device a taxi driver can stop outside a pub or club, press a remote control and send a signal to a sensor inside which illuminates a sign informing customers their taxi has arrived. David patented the idea last September and since then his simple invention has been piloted in pubs and restaurants in the Worsley area with great success. The Ridgemont Drive inventor said: "I thought about the problem of taxi drivers pulling up on a Friday or Saturday night and beeping their horns for ages. It is something that upsets residents living near pubs and restaurants. "Everybody is a winner. Residents don't get woken up late at night, customers know when their taxi has arrived and taxi drivers don't have to wait around for customers." |
