Taxi Driver Online

Hi again people

i passed my PH yesterday, so hopefully i should soon be able to get the vehicle tested & plated, and sort my ops licence

the lady at the council mentioned school work, suggesting theres usually some going spare & although not regular, might be worth doing.

I have 2 questions,

1: Is it worth it rates / aggro ??

2: I have seen a local van doing it, signwritten etc but appears to have no plate ???? Is there a reason for this (no plate) and the signwriting is 9" high letters where the PH rules state 50mm !!!

Please explain to me, I am a bit new & have a feeling theres a few "tricks" some operators pull, of course I would like to know the whole story

The chances are that this "van" is possibly a mini-bus and that minibus may well carry more than 8 passengers making it a PCV, it would therefore not have to comply with PH legislation.

I really wouldn't get too concerned with what others are doing. concentrate on building your own business up and offering a better service.

If you concentrate on what the others are doing and get wound up in the letter of the laws and regulations you'll turn into a bitter old man.

There are no tricks, you either operate legally or you don't.

Sounds like a good bit of advice to me m8, thanks I am just inquisitive by nature (or nosey bugger if you like), wondering how people do this & that.

The van is in fact a minibus with a lot of seats, so I guess it is a PCV, but then don't they come under the same sort of regs as the coach operators (bae, O licence etc)


Depends what one expects I suppose. i know it isn't a route to wealth, but i already have a little business that's very very flexible & i can get my basic living from it. If I can run the PH & cover overheads & make a few quids in the first year, I will be a happy bunny

I suspect she was just being polite.

School work is ok if you don't mind waiting for your money, and the red tape can be plain crazy. But if you can put up with that, then go for it.
