Should I / Shouldn't I ??

I have never used a pre-booked private hire vehicle myself, so am not sure what most would do. Assuming I took a booking for an airport run in a monts time, should I...

A) Offer some form of written contract for us both to sign

B) Take a deposit

i am guessing yes to both, if so, anybody know where I might find a sensible contrat online, or what I might put in it if I draw up my own ?

If your PH and your accepting pre booked jobs on your own accord, you need a PH Operators license.

Apart from that, deposit is the usual practice around here.

Yep, i am doing it all above board CC, got my PH licence, Vehicle passed council inspection today, and my ops licence goes in monday.

Not actually up & running yet, but I'm trying to get as much as possible in order before I do

You could take the booking via a credit card, which would sort out all eventualities.

If you are unsure about the booking then take a deposit, but from my experience a deposit is seldom asked for or given.

Well it's not really a licensing thing, but I assume Freakie meant General Issues or Adminsitration perhaps, but I don't think it's worth moving really.

As regards the substantive question, deposits do exist in the trade, but in my experience the norm is that no deposit is sought.

As for a contract, again written contracts must be unusual for one off jobs I've certainly never heard of any.

The contract is normally just implied terms, which are really just common sense.

I've noticed that some airport transfer firms have T&Cs on their website, but the kind of thing they specify is usually the things that you won't think about until you've done a few and the pitfalls become more obvious - ie how the driver makes contact with the passenger.

But whether T&Cs on a website would legally be part of the contract would depend on whether the customer had them brought to their attention, and that might not alwayst be the case.

If I was Freakie then I would just go ahead without a deposit or T&Cs at the moment and see what happens.

I can see you've lived a sheltered life but is there any particular reason why you chose not to use a private hire vehicle, always assuming that there was a period in your life when you didn't have the use of a car?



Your question is hypothetical but in reality you may think it best practice to give the person a quote and ask them to phone back and place a confirmed booking a day or two before their prospective journey. If you take a booking you are under an obligation to carry it out and should you not turn up and the person misses their flight then you will most definately fall foul of our laws of contract ?

In london if a driver takes someone to the airport and they want a return, we make the customer pay the return fair and the return details must be in our system.
