Five ph drivers have been given warnings by the police for smoking dope the other saturday.
Nothing else just given warnings.
Two of them i think work or worked on scanners firm. I dont know if they have been chucked off but two of the other lads on city cabs have.
It will be interesting to see what the council do.
My money is on nothing.

Do you perhaps work for the local paper, The Argus? As your reporting is very much in their style of getting facts completely wrong.

I have been reliably informed of the following regarding the two persons who are connected with my circuit:

The two people were having a break in Maderia Drive by Burger King and a friend of theirs turned up in a "private" car. This person was indeed smoking a substance. The two drivers were sitting in this car when approached by the police.

When questioned, the two drivers denied smoking any substance and to verify this statement they both insisted on having a blood test to prove their innocence as the consequences would have been severe

The police decided that this would not be necessary. Neither of them were "warned" as no offence had taken place. However, as they were within close inhaling distance of someone who was smoking a substance they were "advised" that they should leave their vehicles where they were to avoid any offence taking place due to passive inhaling of the illicit substance.

If it is considered that if the police had proved that the two drivers were under the influence of such an illicit substance at the same time as being in charge of a publice carrying vehicle, then there would have been much more of a warning given. I would say that they would have been charged, arrested, the Hackney Carraige Department informed and their licenses suspended.

Thats taking the [edited by admin] !! No way would I sit in a car with someone smoking dope if (or even if not) I was driving a cab at the time.

We got 100 Police Officers drug raid us on a Friday night, put us completely out of business for three f**** hours, only to find out later that they made a mistake and should have been raidng a place in Malden Surrey, not Maldon, Essex, and..............

there is no chance of compensation whatsoever !!!!! as they were "acting reasonably on the basis of information they had received.

Well of course all I have done is report the facts to amend the mis-information posted on here..

My personal view on the stupidity of the event arising does not need a comment from me.

My other view is the complete hatred for those customers who have obviously been smoking dope who then get into my cab and stink the cab out making me paranoid about the next cutomer who then gets in and smells it, and then thinks that their driver is on a high.....depspite the liberal use od ASDA "Peach and Roses"... which is probably worse than the smell of the dope!

So your drivers are oik. But why was the drivers chucked off city cabs.
Perhaps they care for their punters more than you.
If drivers get into a mates car who is smoking dope then thats bad.
But you agreeing with it is even worse.
No wonder this trade is underb threat.

OK Scanner. I concede your point. I wasn't trying to get personel. It's just that I am a bit touchy on the subject at the moment.
