Taxi Driver Online

Yes I know they are the bain of our lives, but my local LA has decided that all School contract drivers must obtain Hackney Badges and all cars must be registered as PH. I agree with this in principle, but on the Knowledge Test there is no mention of schools, Social Services Day Centres etc and personally feel that the standards on the knowledge test will be lowered to allow these drivers the required badge. I must say that I am also totally again "contact drivers" doing airport pick ups etc as this is Taxi work and in a totally different field.

I was just wondering what is the norm in other areas?

I think if drivers want to take folks from A to B for reward, then they best get a taxi or PH license to do it.

Else go drive a bus.

We currently do all of our school runs in private hire vehicles, but have been told by another operator that contract work can be done in unplated cars providing the driver has had a police check. The car also can be run on normal insurance....
This does not make any sense to me.
I suspect that they have their facts wrong and are operating illegally.
Any thoughts/comments?

Not sure about the insurance, but the rest is not that far from the truth.

However come May-November that all changes, and if you aint licensed then you are acting outside of the law. Thanks to loads of people in the know, some on here, some elsewhere.

hate to think that others are getting away scott free when i am paying out of the nose. If the cars are going to have to be plated then they will have to have taxi insurance also.
Hope for their sake that they don't have an accident in the meantime as currently I do not think that their insurance would be valid as even contract work should be classed as hire or reward according to insurance companies..

They still should have insurance cover, or at least have informed their insurers.
