Post subject:  Hackney Carriage Working For P/h
A bit of a debate has broken out on our taxi ranks if you are a h/c vehicle and you work for a p/h company if you have that companys rates put into your meter can you run at those rates legaly when you are doing the companys private hire work or can you only charge the tariff that the council has approved for that time of day for hackney vehicles thoughts please??

As i understand it you may charge the PH rate providing that it does not exceed that rate set by the ruling authority

Legally, you can't charge more than the meter fare but there is no legal requirement prohibiting you from charging under the meter fare.

You can't charge more than the meter fare as prescribed in the fare chart published by the council, if such a fare chart is in existance? There is at least one authority in England that does not set fares.

I think most LOs would not be happy at a taxi meter running a different rate than the council set rate, even if it were cheaper.

The best way out is for a phone discount rate off the council set rate. But even that has it's problems. :?

The judge did say the following;

What the passenger wants to know is what he has to pay. The driver is only entitled to charge what is displayed on the meter. If the driver is going to charge, say, half the rate allowed in the table of fares, then half that rate is what the passenger will expect to see on the meter

How many LO's know about taximeters?

This curzon ruling has confused the hell out of me.....I dont mind cabs charging less, but the fare they show should be the same as mine surely?

The judge was wrong in my opinion.
