| Post subject: | Weekend in Blackpool |
On a visit to Blackpool at the weekend, I took a journey in a Private Hire Vehicle and noticed the meter was on tarrif 2 at 10am on a Sunday morning, when I asked about this I was politely informed that tarrif 2 in Blackpool starts at 11pm on Friday until 6am Monday morning. On further enquiring where the fare chart was to substantiate this I was less than politely informed that they do not have to have them, only at Christmas when its extra on top. The cars do not have plates to front or rear and it would be hard to establish if it was kosher or otherwise, as it was booked by the hotel I have no idea. Taking a Hackney Carriage back it was the same answers although he did have an inside plate with his number on, it was stuck behind the front seat passenger on the central door pillar, when asked where his driver ID was he said "in the glove box" come on you Blackpool drivers is this the way? |

Just be grateful that your PH got you out, and the taxi got you home. For Blackpool that's progress.

Sorry to go against the grain but I quite like it. Nowhere near as nice as here but them northern birds are easy pickings. |

Hackneys in London do not have a detailed fare chart on display just some avarage fares IE 2 miles £5.80 3 miles £7.80 etc Also no need to display photo ID just a numbered badge. Insurance is on display in the front of the cab where the passangers will never see it. |

Yes, there are some funny rules regarding this kind of thing. Wearing badges, for example - if you want most passengers to see it then that's the worst possible place for it. And the fare card - it's incomprehensible to the vast majority and thus largely pointless. The London idea of showing fares per the mile is probably a bit better, but how does the punter know the distance travelled? |
