Gateshead council are nearing completion of their updated quality control evaluation review. License applications were put on hold while licensing officers assessed future quality control policy based on new conditions of license. Approximately twenty two changes will be put forward for consideration including an assessment course based on similar proposals to those advocated by Go Skills.

It is thought a local college will host the course, which is expected to improve the skills and awareness of local Taxi drivers.

Gateshead's Policy of open access was never on the agenda and the review was only ever about improving quality controls. The timetable for completion through the Cabinet Committee will be in the short term after the proposals have been presented to the local Taxi and Private hire trade.

Regards

JD
