Savings for certain vehicles, etc.

22 Nothing in sections 10 to 21 (with the exception of subsection (7) of section 21) of this Act shall:-
(a) apply to a vehicle used for bringing passengers or goods within and
taking them out of an area in respect of which the vehicle is not licensed as a taxi or a private hire car in pursuance of a contract for the hire of the vehicle made outside the area if the vehicle is not made available for hire within the area;
(b) apply to a vehicle while it is being used in connection with a funeral or
wedding;
(c) apply to a vehicle while it is being used for carrying passengers under a contract for its exclusive hire for a period of not less than 24 hours.

It would appear you can do what you like in what you like as long as a proper written contract exists between you and your customer. That must include a start time and a finish time that's at least 24 hours apart.

Only one contract can exist at a time, so you can't have half a dozen different contracts going on the same vehicle.

But why don't you license the spare car, is it really going to cost that much?

Well it would actually, You have to have the car tested, hire and reward insurance, (up to 5 times more expensive than your normal premiums) and plates or stickers, and in some cases a meter fitted

As it's hire and reward, you still need the right insurance. Only applies in Scotland as this is from the CGSA

Is this the same as the now repealed section 75 exemption that comes into force in January?

As im In scotland this sounds good..........it may only be to shift luggage, it maybe that im stuck for a Licensed Driver ( which is likely due to all the enhanced procedural checks and other Guff ) and could stick say a family member cheaply on a cheaper by far car insurance than on a that car if put back into commission as a PH Vehicle would start off again with no No Claims Bonus Accrued as its original 5 years NCB went towards a new car....all in all this would save lots of lolly....£1000+ at a conservative guestimate......what says you??

You still need Hire and reward insurance, as regular car insurance won't cover hire and reward

And where could i Find such an Insurance for Occasional work only?? and How do these Luxury Limo guys manage to run vehicles that are unplated by any form of local authority, i assume that there is an Insurance catagory to suit them. as far as my Insurance brokers are concerned I seem to need every concievable authority proof before i get to insure any of my vehicles just short of getting a signature from the almighty himself tp say that I am who I say I am...

I guess its governed by the point of booking..and as im in scotland it'd come under scottish rules...at last something from the scottish executive that doesn't grate on my nerves...
