Is there any booklet that will say where road signs should be placed? IE should there be signs on both sides of the road or just one. I know that when you go from one speed limited area to another, the signs are on both sides of the road. What about no right turn signs? How far do they have to be away from buildings? How high or low should they be? Any help appriciated. |

I apparently made an illegal right turn. The road sign was right on the side of a house on the left hand side of the road and not easy to see when you are looking at the on-comming traffic. It was not a one way street, you just couldn't turn right into it. I spoke to a local resident who said that the police wait on this road every day during school time just to catch people. |

Sounds like entrapment to me. 2 choices: Take pictures of the scene and fight it in court or pay the fine and forget it. You could have a go at the roads dept. Signs are their responsibility, unless it's a trunk road. |

It is the signage positions that concern me. There are no signs on the side of the road where the turning is. Nothing there to say you can't go down. Just a sign on the other side of the road right against a house wall where it blends in nicely. |

Unfortunatly this happened in a town several miles away and I didn't have my camera with me. I think the authorities are quite clever with the fines they impose. £30 fixed penalty. How much will it cost me to try to defend against this. Firstly I would have to drive back there to get a photo and then I would have to get someone to cover my work whilst I attend court, which is in Lincoln, about 40 miles from where I live. I spoke to a pub landlord on the street where it happened and he said that several locals had been to court and won because of the sign positioning. The signs have apparently been there for around 5 years (the policeman told me this) and even though several people have won their cases the signs still haven't been made clearer. Just revenue collecting. |

Many insurance companies recomend you carry a camera in your motor these days, even if it's one of those cheap, disposable things. A picture is worth a thousand words! This gives us another reason to have one. I, like many others, have one on my phone. Could you not contact the pub landlord and ask him to take a few pics for you? Or take some yourself, next time your round that way? If a few have already fought this and won, most of the work will have been done for you. I suppose the easiest course of action is just to cough up and shut up, but it doesn't seem right. The choice is yours |

Could you not contact the pub landlord and ask him to take a few pics for you? Thats a good idea, ask the Landlord to take a pic and send it to your phone or he could always email it to TDO? lol Or contact the local press and see if they have highlighted the sign in the past in which case they might have a pic?
