Little birdy has told me that one of the issues that the licensing officers would like to happen, is for them to be given the powers to stop vehicles.

Hmmmmm. Without the assistance of a Police officer ? Well why not ? If you have got nothing to hide, whats the big deal ? I am all for more enforcement on the streets. Steve |

Hmmmmm. As far as I'm aware, VOSA already have that power. It used to be restricted to a Constable or Traffic Warden in uniform. |

Licensing officers want the power to stop and enforce all vehicles regardless of which area they are licensed? I should imagine that includes those licensed in London and Scotland. Regards JD |

Regards JD I seem to remember a case from several years ago in which a driver from out of his area dropped a passenger at Manchester Airport and was pulled by a local enforcement officer for not wearing his badge (heavy sigh) he claimed the Manchester enforcement team had no juristiction over him but the Courts disagreed. I know this was not a vehicle stop, but surely if a Licensing Officer sees an offence he has a right to deal with it, irrespective of where the driver and his vehicle are from? |

Regards JD I say No problem ! It might actually raise the standards ! If we maintain our vehicles and follow correct procedure why not agree ? If we have nothing to hide let them do the checks ! Only my opinion...lets see what the other lads think ! Steve |

I have heard through the grape vine, that L/O's are attending courses on recognising minor car faults, ie tyres etc. Perhaps this is part of the greater plan. Regards BB |

Regards BB Thats right to some extent and its no secret but in places like Sefton who have three enforcement officers to cover three thousand vehicles I don't think it will make much of a ripple in the muddy waters of license enforcement no matter how many courses they attend, do you? JD, I'm quite suprised at the ratio of L/O's to vehicles in sefton, here in Brighton we have 5 officers to approx 975 PH and Hacks. I don't think anyone can object to this new area L/O's are going into, we all know the standards are vehicles should be. Although you may be correct that Sefton L/O's may not be able to make a great impact due to their numbers, a little of something in this case is better than none. Regards BB |

You're quite right, we used to have five for 2400 vehicles up to last year, we're now trying to find out why they have not been replaced and at least one more taken on....ps.. you must also remember that in the four areas surrounding Sefton..ie.. Liverpool that their licensing officers are also empowered to check Sefton vehicles...... |
