I didn't know that there is at least one council that isn't aware of the MOT requirements, for the taxi trade, in the 1980 Transport Act.

For anyone outside of Tendering (who now know the law since a driver has been done by the police), a taxi needs a new MOT/Compliance certificate every year, no matter how old or young that vehicle is.

I wonder if the council will be paying the lads fine for him?

A link to the story isn't available, cos the poor mush hasn't been to court yet. But I suspect he will get an Absolute Discharge for that offence, and no points as that offence is not endorsable.

If it's a link to the MOT requirements, it's on the Direct Gov site.

I also think this is a clear case of Maladministration should the driver(s) wish to complain to the Local Gov Ombudsman.

But this just shows that when it comes to 'councils know best', they don't. [-X

I have just plated my 2 year old Galaxy without an MOT. I think I will ring the garage up in the morning.

If you have received a certificate of compliance that does instead, until the vehicle is 3 years old, after that you should get both.
That's what happens in the Borders

Well for a limo you wouldn't

I thought it was manditory for all councils to issue a certificate of compliance, once the vehicle has been tested, and that it has to be in the cab at all times, our council has stated that it also acts as an mot certificate in the eyes of the law

My Galaxy is a hackney. I have 2 limos on private hire, a Rover 75 LWB on private hire, 5 hackneys and a white hearse.
