I do believe the Weymouth TPI survey has not yet been highlighted on TDO here is the link if anyone wishes to read the report?

Back in 2006 Weymouth admitted to having a very poor record on out of hours taxi enforcement but they are not alone in that respect.

They said,

All Authorities carry out proactive enforcement, often jointly with other agencies such as the Police, Trading Standards, etc. WPBC compares favourably with regard to daytime enforcement inspections "but falls behind the others with regard to out of hours inspections (with regard to both licensed premises and also taxis and private hire)".

They sure like to try and blind people with figures, you could use your eyes to work it out as it is not a lot different any where else. One thing that I cannot understand is they use other L.A.s to compare their figures, as far as I can see is that a comparison is of no use in determining unmet demand, they can only work with what they have.

In fairness Weymouth have at least looked at it, the majority are just ploughing on issuing licence after licence, but I console myself with the fact that there are "taxi drivers" and there are "taxi drivers".

The report confirms what we all know i.e Friday and Saturday has a situation between 1.00am to 3.00 am where there will be unmet demand. Unfortunately that situation will never be able to be resolved, if you flood the market with vehicles others will leave in their droves because they will not be able to make a living Sunday to Thursday.

At least they have established that there is no unmet demand, but neither did they say how many cabs are actually needed.
