I'm considering starting a list of licensed P/H limo operators which perhaps Alex might make a sticky.

If any licensed limo operator wants to be included in this list then let me have your details of where you are licensed and i'll confirm it with the council concerned.

Naturally comments can be made about perceived unlicensed limo operators but I cannot make an unlicensed list for obvious reasons.

Regards

JD

Hi JD not quite sure as to why you would want to do this on a taxi forum??

Anyway although not licensed by a local council a lot of ops are licensed via VOSA as you are well aware, why should they be excluded from this list?? However i think your response to this thread will be very limited, for no other reason than this is a taxi forum not a limo one so most limo ops will not see the point in this, other than to give you lot ammunition, just being realistic fella nothing more nothing less.

I understand that some limos are licensed by the Traffic Commissioner but from January 28th every limo will need a private hire license unless they have a license to carry more than eight passengers. Therefore many limos become private hire vehicles and considering this is a Taxi and private hire forum then anything that requires a license under the 1847 or 1976 act is part and parcel of what this forum is about.

I thought it might be a good exercise to see how many limo operators actually do license under the new rules? I could always email every local authority in the UK and get the info that way and perhaps it would be less time consuming.

Regards

JD

  Are you 100% sure about this??? The reason i ask is that most people whom i know that are licensed in this manner myself included are not aware of this and i would have thought that within my conversations with VOSA and other respected authorities i would have been told that my license will be invalid after Jan 08 and indeed it has within the last 4 months been renewed!!!

To be perfectly honest though for me personally im not really too bothered as im now working as a bailiff as im sure Grandad will testify and find it hard to try and run the limo too, therefore im thinking of giving
up the limo and my shop totally anyway!! In fact i have already sold 1 limo and the shop is going through via solicitors as i type

Mr 'O' License expert to the rescue. :D

Any vehicle can be used as a PSV if it seats less than 9 folks, and has an engine.

And any person can drive that PSV as long as they have a full DVLA driver's license.

Which means that someone can drive one of those things, even a licensed PSV thing at that, on an ordinary DVLA full driving license.

Limo operators will choose the form of licensing that suites them best and this they have always done in the past. Section 75.1b no longer applies and becomes defunct on January 28th. Anyone not having a license for hire or reward under either code will no longer legally be able to trade. Unless as a wedding or funeral vehicle.

I specifically make no comment with regard to vehicles constructed as minibus.

JD

This is my understanding as well. We have a company in our area that I have mentioned before that run saloon cars on PSV.

I believe Mr BB will confirm that's the way the Brighton Tuk Tuks operated.

Yes but it doesn't become a private hire vehicle.

How many 8 seat limo ops are actually members on here? It will be a very short list.

I agree, and separate fares need to be charge on 100% of PSV under 9-seat rides, as opposed to the current 0%.

Very few, but even if the licensed PH limos don't offer the info themselves, especially if they are not on here or don't know about TDO, then there is no reason why someone else can't put them up.

IMO it's something to be proud of. :D

Vehicles with less than 9 seats licensed by the traffic commissioners office have by law to abide by the terms of their license. That means timetables and carrying passengers at seperate fares. It does not mean taking bookings for the purpose of private hire.

Mr Tuc Tuc defo runs his death traps on PSV licences, I have heard that their is another operator down here who also has two restricted PSV licences for less than 9 seats!
Mind Boggling!

Mr Tuc Tuc got half way round that by operating as a dial a ride before he shut himself down.
