We have had taxi marshalls gradually introduced into the City generally on a Friday and Sat nights. They started off just organising queues on one rank only, and putting in place road blocks authorized by the council, i.e cordoning off roads to traffic. Now the situation is this, probably just like the rest of you we have too many cars and not enough parking places. So where the barriers have been put up the guys have been "unofficially" ranking because we have not got anywhere to park. I do not have a problem with the police telling us to move on, but we now have the taxi marshalls telling us to move and that goes against the grain. They are I believe funded by the police, but do they have the power to move us about. |

They've got no powers really - unless they're actually employed by the Council or Police and been included as an authorised officer (IMHO) |

Only a police officer or traffic warden in uniform (not a council or privately employed parking warden) can tell you to move on. |

We have them in Romford and they are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. They do nothing to stop punters with food etc or those so drunk they can’t stand. Apparently they are there to prevent queue jumping but I don’t care about that, they all pay the same wherever they are in the queue. |

I dont have a problem with marshalls as such when they are doing the job they are employed to do. Now that im out the PH game and driving the hacks, i can sit on a rank and clearly see that the marshalls attitude towards PH is disgusting, provoking, and downright unlawful. I find it strange that glasgow city council can refuse or cancel a drivers taxi licence on the premises of being ``fit and proper` however they very blatantly turn a blind eye to the marshalls behaviour towards anything that isnt a hackney carriage. They are there to stop rowdiness in taxi ranks and q jumping, nothing more , nothing less, there defo not there to walk into the middle of the road and tell ANYONE to move like they usually do. Or maybe its the yellow vests / jackets that anyone who wants a taste of authority nowadays, has to wear. |
