If this had been a cab driver on current form the chances are he would have had his license revoked? ________________________ Birmingham Post October 26, 2007, Friday Lichfield Mayor steps down Disgraced Tory councillor Michael Fryers has quit as Mayor of Lichfield following his conviction for assault. He stepped down as the civic leader of Lichfield less than 24 hours after he was found guilty of assaulting quantity surveyor Peter Cole following a bar room altercation in July. Lichfield District Council chiefs yesterday said that his decision to stand down would not affect his position as an elected member. It is thought that Coun Fryers will continue his role as a district councillor for Lichfield. The Birmingham Post was unable to contact Coun Fryers to talk about his decision but Coun Tony Thompson, leader of the city council, described the episode as "sad". He said a special council meeting would be held in due course to elect a successor. _______________________ |
