Taxi Driver Online :: View topic - Does the GMB know it is part of the NTTG?

Anyone remember back in 2004 when the National Taxi trades Group put out a statement regarding fighting the OFT report? TDO did a piece on the full statement which mentioned "sleepy hollows" and "how they listened to their members". In consideration of the recent revitalisation of the national GMB pro drivers branch I found this NTTG statement quite intriguing because at that time it appears to me that the NTTG were claiming the GMB was part of the NTTG. Have a look at the signature at the end of the document.

I just wonder if the GMB is still a member of the NTTG and if all GMB members contributed to the plate levy to stop the Government removing section 16?

Why fight a national campaign at local level?

The response from other associations has been so big that we have now had to change our name from the N.W.T.A. to the National Taxi Trades Group (N.T.T.G.). This association’s purpose is to convince the Government that the way forward is not to de-limit the number of taxi licences throughout the country, but to use a policy of controlled growth, and which we as a trade should play an active part in its construction.

We would welcome any association, national or otherwise to contact us and work with us, so together we can represent our trade as one body.

I think the GMB nationally has a new supa dupa committee that deal with all national issues. Maybe Mr BB could confirm the SP. I would imagine local areas have their own local issues and difficulties, but from what I see only the national taxi/PH committee of the GMB can speak on national issues, under the GMB banner.

That's a good thing, so is the Manchester Branch of the GMB no longer part of the NTTG? I would like to hear a yes to that question which would give me immense satisfaction. Regards JD

I just wonder how the Manchester GMB came to be affiliated to the NTTG? Obviously it was a local decision and i can fully understand why because there is a lot of pizzing in the same pot that goes on in Manchester. If Mr Manchester private hire joined the Manchester GMB with 100 of his two thousand members that he likes to bandy about how long would it be before the Manchester GMB was run by private hire drivers? Where would that leave the local hackney trade? Up the river without a paddle I suspect. I guess there will always be another vessel to board somewhere down the line? Regards JD

(formerly N.W.T.A. inc GMB and T&GWU) ________________________ JD, I can confirm that the GMB PDB are not part of the NTTG, I was also surprised to see that they claimed the GMB were back in 2004. Is it possible they used the GMB name to further the cause. The National Organisng Committee of the GMB PDB is the national voice of the GMB regarding all Taxi, Private Hire and Chauffer matters.
