A letter from a Cardiff private hire driver who was fined for using a bus lane.

South Wales Echo

April 4, 2008, Friday

Letter: Viewpoints - To customers a taxi is a taxi

Albert J Dainty

RE: Private hire taxis breaking the law(Echo, March 20). I was fined pounds 60 plus costs, a total of pounds 95, for breaking such a ridiculous law.

It doesn't matter if you are private hire or hackney carriage, we are all doing a service to the general public.

In their eyes a taxi is a taxi whether it be private hire or a hackney.

We should all be allowed to use bus lanes and St Mary Street as we all pay the same fees to the licensed carriage office, but you knowwhat their answers would be.

If a survey with the public was held, 99 per cent would say a taxi is a taxi.

Albert J Dainty Weston Road, Llanrumney, Cardiff

Quite, but in some areas one part of the trade hate the idea of the other side having equal treatment.
