The licensing officer in our district is insisting that 'in keeping with the expected apperance of vehicles licensed by this Authority' I must replace all the missing wheel trims off my Taxi.

Surely I don't have to do this - it doesn't affect the saftey of the vehicle.

He say's it detracts from the appearance of the vehicle, looks scruffy and sets a bad impression to customers.

I will if I have to but can he make me?

Jesus!!! Maybe the "Nanny State" should introduce a ban on wheel trims, or ban cars from travelling on public roads, or ban pedestrians from walking !!!! And to think I have spent most of my life thinking that plastic cable ties were intended to stop the trims from being nicked !!!

Sorry, my "learned" friend, I should have said "the use of plastic cable ties in relation to wheel trims", then you might have understood more easily. :lol:

P.S. your great friends the Police have used cable ties as handcuffs for years, bet you would not dare call them simple buggers. :lol:

I think 60 odd pound a set is good enough reason. :shock:

I will if I have to but can he make me? I'm afraid if your vehicle was manufactured with wheel trims then that is part and parcel of the vehicle. "All parts" must be working and functional including body work. Best wishes JD

i think it looks very scruffy and tatty when you see cars going around with wheel trims missing. you can go in to a motor factor and pick up a set of four for £15. hardly breaking the bank. better still get two sets the same, one set of four for all four wheels now and the other set as spares. use plastic zip ties to keep then on the wheels and just replace them when the outer edge of the rims looks tatty from all that scraping the kerb. and dont forget the clean the brake dust off the front ones every week

I will if I have to but can he make me? Its nice to see that they have got their pririoties right. Dont worry about touts and bad drivers, but throw the lot against wheel trims. If you need to get them really clean, then stick them in the dishwasher. They come out as good as new.
