Hi all this is my first post.

Before I begin, I just like to say that what an excellent forum this is. A great mix of fabulous facts, opinions, advice and humour. It has certainly helped to solidify the reasons why I should become a become a taxi/PH driver, for that I am ever so grateful. However, right now I need your help and advice for I haven't been sleeping well recently. This is why.

This may seem trivial for the experienced but for me this is causing a lot of grief and indignation. I have 3 penalty points on my drivers licence. A TS10 (failing to comply with traffic light signals). I received these points a year ago. I have waited about 7 weeks for my PH Licence. I received a letter yesterday from my local council (East Renfrewshire, Scotland) explaining that because of these penalty points I am required to attend an interview with the Principal Committee Services Officer who will consider my application. I have no criminal history, no other motoring offences, I have been driving for ten years with no claims to speak of.

My question to you all is: Is this normal?

It doesn't feel normal. I have checked many other councils literature on the matter and the general consensus is anything below 7 points should not restrict a person obtaining a PH licence. Why do they want to see me?
It feels that they are exercising their power to the extreme. It also feels that because they want to see me, then there is a possibility that they will not grant the licence and that uncertainty is playing havoc with my state of mind. Don't get me wrong, I am all for the law and I admit I wish my licence was clean without this blemish, but this still feels harsh. Is my indignation justified? Please Help.

If u had been given notice that you were required to present yourself before the full licensing committee then you might have had greater cause for concern. Relax and when you have your tate a tate with the LO tell him that your indiscretion will not be repeated.

Regards

JD

You are worrying unduly IMO.

I suspect everyone who has points is invited in for a chat, and a reminder that points are not a plus point for the taxi/PH trade.

Don't worry, be happy.

Thanks JD and Sussex.

Now that I know that this is normal I have started to calm down, so thanks for that.

"I am not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens"
(Woody Allen)

That just about sums me up!!!

Like all neophytes I should probably restrain myself until I have something useful to contribute. That will come when I have more experience in the trade, nevertheless, thanks for the responses.

Kind Regards

Fudbaws (you can see I am not adverse to self-deprecation, I mean look at that username!!)

Do you mean he was sweetening the guy up?

Anyway it's not tate a tate; it's Tate + Lyle!
