anyone know what size vehicle the "minibus" I provide for my test has to be?

seen it somewhere but lost the info

DVLA class 6-16 passenger vehicles as a minibus

I took a DVLA group 2 (HGV/PCV) medical to get a HC/PH driver badge, the medical is valid for 5 years

ive got D1 "101" on my licence but need to get a d1 provisonal entitlement added AND take a DOCTORS medical test (£80) and take a theory/hazard/practical test to drive a 16 seater lwb minibus even though i could step into a 7.5tonner and tow a trailer this afternoon, no test needed...

my merc sprinter 4.2 went quite well not knowing all this for 3 years thanks

just all pay and paperwork i reckon, and ive gotta source a 16 seater with a tacho to take the test

When I got my Minibus PCV it was in a 16 seater, but i think a true Minibus is between 9 Passenger seats and 16 Passenger seats. anything smaller can be called a Minibus but wouldnt benifit from the same VAT back on Fuel even though its Zero Rated when you charge for the Vehicle.

the Krappy thing is the new driver CPC course that are compulsory and require 35 hours of driver Training within 5 years.. carried out in Minimum units of 7 hours each and costing around £1250 for the 35 hours worth. why pass a bloody test in a minibus to say your fit to drive one then straight away discover that your not and book in for further training...utter Madness...more so because your granny on a car licence could buy a 17 seat vehicle and drive the grandkids about on her car licence provided she dont take a penny off them....

dont think it needs a tacho...tachos are only needed if you do a regular/service type run of 30km per day.

dvla or dsa told me it needs a tacho for the driving test

with 3 bodies involved (dsa/dvla/vosa) its really frustrating to get the correst info

1 classes a minibus as 6-16 seats - so i could have used my tourneo, the other 2 say 9+ seats and 1 says with a tacho

if its regd after jan 1st 07 it will have a digital tacho.....

round and round and round we go................


how many warehouses, temp agencies and road/rail gangs do you see in 16 seater minibuses? - all passed tests? i doubt it

Some bus drivers attain their PCV category through sponsorship of their local bus company as part of their employment. However, if the vehicle used for the training and practical test was fitted with an automatic or semi-automatic transmission, any minibus with a manual transmission cannot be driven on that PCV category.

If you have a photo card licence and you passed your PCV test using a vehicle with an automatic or semi-automatic transmission, then your licence will be identified with the code "106 (6)" which denotes a restriction to vehicles with an automatic transmission within that category.

Therefore, if you are a bus driver with a 106 code attached to your PCV category, and you wish to drive minibuses on a PCV licence you will have to take an additional D1 practical driving test.




so if i have a car/manual licence, or even an automatic licence, pass my D test in a 52 seater coach with a semi-automatic gearbox i STILL have to take a d1 exam/medical, etc, etc...to drive a lwb transit.....

HMG are on a winner with this!
