Well i decided to go for the RH-2 just so you all know. For me it's not a question of can you afford to buy one but can you afford NOT to buy one?
I'm a driving instructor who's had several hit and runs over the years where people get too close, hit you when you stall then drive off because they know it's their fault. I've spent over £1000 on damage that with this system i would not have had to shell out for. With the recent riots in Birmingham and more and more maniacs on the road every week intent on crashing at any opportunity i feel the need for these systems is growing.
Just to keep it accurate and up to date, the RH-2 retails for £295 and comes with a 2 year guarantee. The cheaper one on ebay is now £179.99 and is actually a version of another system called Learnercam one (see Learnercam.co.uk). The £500 version of the Roadhawk is the pro-version including extra boxes to plug in memory cards and a TFT monitor which i don't feel i need. They also have the DC-1 model for £199.99 which is 1 camera facing forwards.
The RH-2 offers much better fitting than the others, it's far easier to remove thanks to it's suction mount and it looks much less like a camera so less likely to cause concern for my pupils. I tried a cheaper version and the suckers just aren't strong enough to hold it resulting in a damaged camera should you take a speed bump too quickly!
I hope you're all happy with whatever you decide to buy, i just feel that you get what you pay for after buying a so-called bargain PC on ebay that was half the price of a top brand but literally blew up in smoke after 1 month!
Another big point of these systems is that you can use them in defence of speeding fines to prove you weren't speeding. Is it not worth investing £300 to save your career, home and family?
Happy motoring and let's hope none of us ever have the need to use these systems for anything serious anyway!
