Don't accept them at the moment but seem to be getting more and more people wanting to use them.

What do you guys think of this?

You need cabapp, the best credit card system out there all at a cost of nothing to the driver. And only 3.9% to the punter

another vote for cab:app.. according to our LO we cannot charge more than the metered fare.. so we've had to get cab:app to set it up so we put in the metered fare and the driver takes the 3.9% hit.. but we don't have any monthly fee's.. its only pay as you go!

Bank fee of 3.9% is not part of the fare, it is a bank charge so it can be included, you put in the fare, the bank, not you, add the fee. Cab:app is brilliant, I see the jobs as a free bonus, the card facility as a godsend. Anyone without it needs their lumps felt.

As has been alluded, the metered fare is being charged correctly, and that is all the driver is receiving.

If for example someone paid by cheque (yes I know no one does), but let us say that they did.........and it bounced & then you chased it for the next six months - Are they saying that you could not charge "interest"?

I'm hoping that I can resurrect this thread and get a few more opinions.

A colleague had had a meeting, on behalf of our company, with our current merchant account processor who have offered in-car chip & pin terminals at £15pcm ea plus a small processing percentage, say, 2.5%

'Back of a fag packet' calculations indicate that I would need to do £3690 pa on card payments to cover costs.

I currently use TaxiPay with a 6.5% charge, £630 payment taken ytd so far.

Leaving aside any arguments regarding TPCA provisions, is there another way of doing this that isn't going to bankrupt us or our customers?

I did an integration for a uniform chain store a few months ago. You only pay for the terminal £25 pm and the money goes directly to your bank, no middleman. You can take Verifone online payment and use that with a mobile app in your car or just give every driver a terminal.

A few drivers here are ditching the Cabcard chip and pin machines which cost anything between £15 - £23 per month and charge the customers 10% in favour of the https://secure.izettle.com/register?code=HB9CHC chip and pin with a one off cost of £59 and then 2.75% transaction fee so you only pay what you use.

We can charge the 10% processing fee so can add that on but just pay 2.75% so get the extra 7.25% into the bank.

I also use cab app for over the phone transactions.

I'm using izettle chip and pin card reader,as saidpreviously 59 pounds one off for the reader and then only2.75 percent charge to you.I can charge 50p fee.I love the convenience and swiftness of it ,impressed.

I think with the growth of smartphone technology, the days of the chip and pin card machines are numbered and contactless payments that doesn’t involve the customer actually handing over a card seems to be the way forward. We did some integration with Zapper recently and although I initially thought it was just another gimmicky method of payment, the more I thought about it, the more it all made sense.

You need to set up an account and display your little QR code logo inside the vehicle and after that it’s just a point and click for the customer. Doesn’t cost a bean and the 2.7% is levied on the customer account so you get 100% of the fare. The mistake is in thinking that nobody will embrace this kind of technology and prefer instead for you to take their card.
