I guess that it means that if there is a new problem with the operating system, they will not supply an update to fix it. If you don't have a problem with your system then it should continue to work as it always has.

Uncle Bill is after making more money. XP drivers have already been stopped. The machine will stop when it's run out of drivers or the drivers need updating. There'll be no more updates for XP so it's just a matter of time. It's like running a car with the petrol light on, it's going to stop when it runs out of fuel.

Anyone who hasn't swapped over from XP to Windows 7 is a fool.

you will be OK till XP goes tits up, but even then , while Msoft wont support it, most computer repairers will

or you can upgrade your OS (operating system) should you be really worried (and have space on your puter to do so)

I think you may find that product suppliers (HP, etc) supply drivers with new printers,etc....

Product support for XP isnt about drivers really

Just keep your Norton/Kaspersky/etc uptodate

Quote:
On April 8, Microsoft will officially end technical support for its Windows XP operating system.

To be clear, computers running XP will keep working after April 8. But they'll run an increased risk of becoming victims of viruses and malware.

You see, every month for the past 12 years Microsoft has released security patches for Windows XP. If you've ever watched Windows Update do its thing, that's what going on in the background: it's downloading a security update.

The April 8 patch will be the last. If new flaws in XP are discovered after that, they will go unfixed.

I never get driver updates from Msoft, other sources are easier

The XP support is about the OS, theyve dropped other OS's before, i keep a repair disc which cost me £3

Windows XP is a PC operating system and has nothing to do with the Windows Mobile operating system used on the older PDAs. The main reason for moving to Android would be to get all the devices using the same system and that way everyone gets the same functionality and it’s far easier to support. Any device running Windows Mobile will, because of its age, have basic processors and limited memory so time to get a new one.

Pretty much the same applies to XP machines, they can be updated but a new one's always going to be much better.

Bill :)

The strangest thing has been happening whilst I am on holiday in Spain. One of our computers in the office runs XP and we get the messages regarding no more updates etc. However I have my laptop here with me and this also runs XP. I only noticed last night when I shut it down but it is receiving updates from windows and installing them as usual. So is the lack of support for XP a worldwide thing or just the UK?

Has it been connected to the internet since April?

When I first turned it on and off when I got here it loaded 17 updates, these were obviously the ones since Easter when I was last here. But there have been others since then. I also do not get the same message about support ending that I get in England.

I've just noticed Microsoft have turned off the Office 2010 updates. When I log onto my emails I'm getting a red line at the top saying, "Microsoft Outlook product activation failed."
