Firstly a happy new year to one and all.

Our firm are changing from Auriga to Cordic at the end of this month. Our lot bought a taxi co in a neighbouring town and liked the Cordic system. I understand its multi fleet facility appealed. What I am interested in is it good for the driver? I believe we will be issued with LG PDA's using Orange SIMs. I like the idea of being able to sit on my sofa and accept jobs. Any advice or tricks of the trade gratefully received.

I feel your pain already, sitting on your sofa waiting for a job you might just lose connection.

We have a couple of drivers who do this, and yes they do sometimes lose connection and miss jobs.

Unless it's like ours where you have to plug it back into the vehicle every 15 mins to reset the out of car time allowance or it logs you out.

Thanks for the response. I get a good network signal at home so hope to be ok on that one. Sasha's comment is of particular interest. How does putting it back in the car reset the out of car allowance? On our Auriga system the company has it set for 3 minutes out of car which is a pain.

But it could, given the will/desire

When you remove the PDA from the vehicle a countdown starts from 15 minutes, once it reaches zero you get logged out of the system. During the 15 minutes jobs will be sent to you as normal and you have 90 seconds to get back to the vehicle, plug the PDA back in and press accept - if you don't you get 'dumped'. At any time during the 15 minute countdown you can plug the PDA back into the car and then go out of car again with a fresh 15 minutes.

We use Cordic and this feature is completely configurable in the Admin programme. You can set time limits if required and also choose to switch it on or off for specific drivers also. So for instance you might let Bob have it switched off or set to 20 minutes because he has a dodgy knee and it may take him longer to get back to his vehicle whereas you may set it for 15 minutes for all other drivers.

If you're inside a house or venue with wifi you can connect to the wifi and wait for a job to come through if your phone signal is poor.

How when the job is sent via SMS?

Is that the same with all systems or just Cordic? I thought that with some systems jobs are sent by data and not SMS which is why you have a data only sim.

Jobs and all other information is sent via data (not sms text). Even the text or ringback are data sent back to a different device that actually sends the text.
