Doesn't that piece of blue Lego put customers off using it, thinking it might be a skimmer?

Same.
Our machines have an option just before entering the PIN to add on a tip, but it's embarrasing to ask if they haven't already offered.
I mean you wouldn't ask a cash paying punter 'do you want to give a tip' when they're handing over the money.

But more than that, we absorb the costs and only charge what's on the meter. So if it was a £4.80 fare not only do you just get the £4.80 but you also lose a percentage in CC charges, if it was a cash job most of the time they'd round it up to the £5.

Plus I'm paying nearly £30 a month for the CC facility, yet most months I don't even do £30 of card jobs !

It sounds like you have the same machines as we do, through secure taxi. In which case each machine needs to generate £15 of surcharge fees. It sounds to me like you're being ripped off by your base!
