Hi all, we've been running as a two car company for the last 6 months and now have need to add number three to the fleet. We've been doing really well insuring the two cars individually under my name (as I'm currently the only driver!) but car number three is going to be rented out. Most insurance companies will only offer fleet if you have two years or more no claims taxi, which we don't have yet, and the few that have offered it have been FAR higher than insuring the three vehicles under my name. The problem comes where number three is going to be rented, so I'm trying to work out the best way to do it. I could afford fleet, or I could put them as a named driver on car 3... or I was looking at just charging a rental fee and letting them get their own insurance. What would you say the best/cheapest option would be? |

I didn't have any problem getting fleet insurance when we went from 1 car to 2 cars, in fact it was the insurer that suggested it. At the time we were with Swinton. Our current broker is Robert Nott. |

How does it work if out of two cars one's Insurance ends Say in August and the other in March..can a broker factor this so as you do not lose money on half a years worth of premiums if you opt for fleet insurance? And if ones in a bump does it affect the NCB on all cars rather as just one car? |

We can get fleet, but it's not a cheap option. To give you an idea, on car 1 we're currently paying £173 a month... car 2 is £140. The two fleet quotes we've had so far for three cars has put the average up to £210 per car! I asked why, they said it was because you were paying for the privelidge of not having to declare drivers

One base i was on used to buy 10 or 20 policies and "sell on" to drivers at £40 a week, the radio was another £40 a week but that was 20 years ago |

There's some firms round here that can add you and your car to their fleet at a small cost. |

Here you will pay around £250 a week for the cab fully insured. No work included. Depending on the firm, radio is anything up to £170 on top |
