Hi all, need to purchase a replacement vehicle very soon. Been looking at some 3 year old mondeos 2.0 tdci which seem very good value. Would be very interested to hear from anyone who runs one as a taxi, with anu thoughts you may have about them. Many thanks.

On my second MK4 and I love them.

That said when the warranty goes the car does, so not too sure about cars more than 3 years old.

But I love the room in the car and the boot size, IMO the perfect saloon taxi/PH.

I think there are problems with the bits that keep the emissions low, but other than that you should be ok.

Many thanks for your replies. To avoid the psa engines would mean trying to find a 1
8. Anyone have experience of running a 1.8, thought they were old technology and maybe under powered.

Steer clear of Mondeo's full stop. I've driven them for years and they're useless, when they start to go wrong they're a money pit.

Superb is a defo consideration mine is just over a year old and still receives praise from passengers, get a 2.0 tdi as the 1.6 is more for the Octavia or rapid, I have a 1.6 does me but an enthusiastic would want the 140-170 grunt of the 2 litre.

I run a 2008 1.8 Mk4 estate as a hack and its perfect!

Keep it serviced, whatch your belt changes (the 1.8 has a belt in the sump that runs in oil that's classed as a non service item - but needs changing with cambelt every 125k), passengers love the size, its all day comfortable driving, nice spec ~ my Edge has bluetooth, cruise, heated front screen, dark tints, massive boot and averages 45-48mpg round town...

Only down side is it'll never win a 0-60 race..
