Isn't that an all electric car and not a hybrid?

All this green stuff is just bollox to extract more money of your pockets and people fall for it, 3 miles on a charge ffs you gotta be kidding #-o
As wannabee said why not diesel instead of petrol, bad design again. I've got no HP, full NCD on insurance and do my own repairs/servicing. Oh and after 2 years you can hand it back oh aye right....... you've just gave them 10grand  If you never own it why bother?
400 quid/month??? I've got better to spend my money on

The 3 miles per charge is irrelevent. The petrol engine keeps the electric motor charged up.

Shown to be totally crap on fuel top gear tested one, for a week, on a 90 mile daily commute, and a diesel skoda octavia beat it every time

I suppose it would depend on the use it is being put to. i believe that the Prius is better on short stop/start runs than on distance jobs. Also with cars with proper engines, drivers tend to let them tick over whilst on the rank thus using fuel all the time whereas a Prius or similar does not run when stationary.

Far from being an expert me, but a 90 mile commute suggests motorway journeys and not the short journey stop start of an urban cab? Is the high cost of maintanace of a diesel, DMF's DPF's, downtime etc offset a bit by lower fuel consumption? I not Honest John comments on Prius taxis being known to reliably cover 400000 miles.

start at the start

Purchase cost Prius = "from" £21600
Purchase cost Octavia diesel = "?" £16,500

http://www.toyota.co.uk/cgi-bin/toyota/ ... us-landing
http://www.skoda.co.uk/GBR/newcars/octa ... fault.aspx

So theres £5000 saved before you turn a wheel

Toyota prius MPG - 50
http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/prius

Skoda Octavia MPG - 40
http://www.fuelly.com/car/skoda/octavia ... /hatchback

I know for sure my Mondeo does 49mpg true average

They may get slightly cold in the summer as well if this weather is anything to go by.

No tramways near you then??

Back to basics, both my cars do about 30,000 miles a year; the hybrid costs about £3536 in petrol, the diesel Voyager about £7243, so half the price spent on fuel.

No doubt on urban cab use the hybrid would do far more mpg than the 56mpg it gets on mostly rural work as every time you take the foot off the gas it charges, and every time you brake it charges. It's not cold in winter as a pump keeps hot water from the radiator circulating. Mpg is less in winter as the engine runs more to keep you warm. Ha.

My view is lease costs will stay the same, fuel costs will go up, so a hybrid or electric car makes sense despite the higher purchase/lease cost.

If you don't want to lease, get one on HP, then it's yours to keep after the HP is paid, simples. I chose to lease so if the car proves unreliable/uneconomic, it goes back and I get a conventional car.

Firstly, the Voyager weighs about twice what the hybrid weighs and carries half again as many passengers so its hardly a direct comparison

I do 30K a year @ 50mpg and my fuel bill is £4000, i pay no HP, as i paid cash for the car

unto each his own - plus i can flog the car in a heartbeat
