Why go out and blow 25 large on a decent motor for the knob heads to hurl up in of a weekend night?

I'm guesing that it depends on the type of work you do? Some contract work may require a more exe vehicle?

Perceived image of quality and luxury perhaps. People are more likely to be seen wanting to get out of a Mercedes when arriving at a hotel/wedding/corporate event etc...regardless of how good the car actually is from the driver's point of view.

Good point, I think that some may see a merc as 'more special'.

If you could get top dollar rates for "exec" work youd not use a Mondeo nige

Indeed, if you wish to be a sub-contractor for chauffeur firms in London, a number of them will specifically require a Mercedes otherwise you won't get work from them (they may accept the equivalent from BMW/Audi/Jaguar, but you probably won't get the best jobs).

Some will also specify a certain colour (usually silver or black) to meet customer expectations, and to keep things uniform when a client requests a number of cars at the same time.

Mines a 3, 4 people can be a bit of a squeeze, 3 people ok though, and it's very rare I get 4, so no problem, boots not great, you won't get 4 cases in there, people like the car though, I get loads of requests :D so well worth it. Driving wise it's brilliant, mpg is 55. My first taxi was a Hillman hunter, so I have come a long way since those days, for me it's about my comfort, we spend a lot of time in our vehicles and I'm not riding round in no Vauxhall or ford. But your right my next one will be a 5 series, I will sacrifice the fuel economy for some more comfort.

modern cars are too "swoopy", sloping in from the sides and rooflines sweeping down, all very nice to look at but it all loses headroom
