Just a quick update on the cab.
1500 miles and not a single breakdown :)

Seriously it drives sooo much better than a TX2. I am loving the new dash too with the rev counter.

I will keep you updated on any issues that arise.

1500 miles?

thats not quite 2 weeks on my school run, my mondeo has done it since january 18th with no major drama yet

What I am saying is some people on here will have you believe that the TX4 is [edited by admin].
I am telling you now that so far its the best hackney taxi I have ever driven. I dont class private cars as hackneys - sorry

Tbh I would not drool over the car just yet!!!! The track record on these cars are appalling when you consider just how long they have been making them.

After so many years of ripping people off and making extortionate returns re income, they should have those cars singing. What we unfortunately have from a manufacturer after 50/60 years of making them is uncertainty, with people placing bets as to when it is going to go t!ts up and the owner after 2000 miles virtually saying..............well it has not broken down Yetttttttttt, not that I wish it on you.

Definately not a good situation.

I am just trying to redress the balance really.

What I can say is that the TX4 is a much better built taxi compared to the TX2.
There are several here that are now way over 100k and nearly 4 years old that they have never broken down.

It does seem that servicing is important and must be kept up but when it is, problems are few and far between.

Well I picked up my brand new 10 plate TX4 yesterday and I can only say its superb.

I cant believe how well it drives compared to the previous models. New dash layout, DAB radio, silky smooth engine, great suspension and better mph than the TX2 (which is not hard admittedly ).

OK its not perfect (drivers leg room is still shocking and drum brakes on the rear ! plus its 10 grand overpriced) but I am overall really pleased.
I will most likely be doing longer hours which means I will earn more cash so thats a good thing.

Not too sure why its not fit for purpose as Skippy keeps saying :?:

Well you're the first person to claim better MPG on a TX4.

In London they're the worst of the LTI's to date for fuel consumption. My Fairway was ok, then the TX1 went downhill, and the TX2 isn't much better at around 25 MPG.

That said, they seem to have (at last) sorted out the turbo hoses, radiators and warning lights.

I'm still aiming for the Mercedes though, there's just too much room to ignore.

By the way, which dealer supplied it, now that you have a choice of a whole one in the South East?

As it says, Allied Vehicles are not taking the PCO (Or TPHL as it is now known  ) to court over their refusal to drop the turning circle for the E7 or the M8.

In their words 'It'll be a couple of years yet, we're still deciding'

I'm betting another Merc style rear wheel steering mechanism is being developed.

However after reading through various trade forums about the E7 and how Allied treat you afterwards, I'm thinking we'll be no better off with a Citreon / Peugeot Van conversion.

I cannot see any other manufacture bothering with the rear steer due to a limited market, and cost
Allied, only convert the inners of the vehicle, they dont supply the running gear, so action has to be brought against Peugeot/Citroen/Fiat as its mainly there bits that go tits up
But as the supplying dealer Allied have a duty of care to the customer so need to get there act together, as they say the cabs come with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty then they should honor it no questions asked

I had an interesting conversation with the mechanics at the main agents in Liverpool.... it seems that they have had to replace quite a few engines at around 120,000 miles.... as they said themselves in was not due to not being serviced correctly... a fast engine and a very weak bottom end....
