The British have the famous London Black Cab and the Americans used to have the Checker Cab. Well, for the first time since 1982, a US-designed and built taxi could soon be roaming the streets of America. This new vehicle called MV-1 was developed by Vehicle Production Group LLC (VPG). The MV-1 is a multifunction vehicle designed for taxi and paratransit fleets. On November 17, the manufacturer announced that series production would start in October of next year. The cab was designed and engineered to meet the needs of both ambulatory and mobility-impaired passengers, the taxi industry as well as the general public. Descendant of the Standard taxi cab The MV-1 is the second vehicle developed by VPG. In 2007, the one-year-old company founded by Marc Klein and Patton Corrigan introduced a taxi cab concept called Standard at the New York International Auto Show. Decked in hideous attire, it managed to impress inside with an ultra-functional layout resembling the British icon, which is still manufactured by LTI in the UK. The MV-1 is way more stylish. Some compare its roundish silhouette to the Honda Element, others to the Dodge Journey. In reality, the wheelbase and width are quite similar to the Dodge Grand Caravan’s, although the MV-1 is 20-cm taller and 6-cm longer. The MV-1 is derived from the far less attractive Standard Taxi Concept, introduced by VPG at the 2007 New York International Auto Show. Ready for wheelchairs! The MV-1 is the first US-designed vehicle whose standard specifications meet or exceed the vehicle guidelines of the "Americans with Disabilities Act". The interior can accommodate the driver and up to five passengers, including two in wheelchairs (facing forward). It features a large rear door on the passenger’s side that creates a 1.42-metre tall and 0.9-metre wide opening. A specially-designed access ramp with a capacity of 544 kilos can deploy from underneath the vehicle floor to allow people in a wheelchair to get in. The interior can accommodate the driver and up to five passengers, including two in wheelchairs (facing forward). In fact, with an interior clearance of nearly 1.5 metre, even those in huge motorized wheelchairs can enter the MV-1. Familiar components The body-on-frame structure of the MV-1 houses a Ford-sourced 4.6-litre V8 engine that produces 248 horsepower through a 4-speed automatic transmission (codename 4R75E). This powertrain is shared with the Ford F-150 truck. Both gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG) variants are available, the latter providing a range of about 400 kilometres. The MV-1 will be assembled by AM General, the same company that created the "Humvee", at the Hummer H2 factory in Indiana. http://www.auto123.com/en/news/green-wh ... tid=113462 |

also the inside looks goodIf the PCO do decide to scrap the turning circle by allowing the E7 on, GBC might be interested if the price is right (could not find the price) It has a 35 foot turning circle, but if it came over here it would only need to carry 1 WC and have a partition bulk head and have a decent diesel engine |
